Hotel Accomodations

The NCPMA has reserved a block of guest rooms at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center (pictured above) in Research Triangle Park, NC. Guest room reservations are the individual responsibility of conference attendees. To make your reservations, call the hotel directly at (919) 941-5050 or Sheraton Central Reservations at (800) 325-3535 and be sure to identify yourself as an NCPMA conference attendee to receive the group rate of $139 per night (plus 13.5% sales and occupancy taxes) for single or double standard occupancy accomodations.

Make your Fall Conference room reservations online via a Sheraton RTP Group Rooms Reservations Site (opens in new window) customized for our NCPMA Group. Rooms will automatically book at the group rate with online reservations, but only if booked through this site.

The group rate will be offered until September 1st. After that date, accomodations will be subject to room and rate availability. It is strongly suggested that you make your room reservations early, as this is the busiest time of the year at this property.

The Sheraton Imperial is located at Exit 282 (Page Road) off of I-40 in RTP. (map)

What should I wear?!?!

Appropriate dress for the NCPMA Conference Meetings is business casual. Suggestions include: khaki slacks, button-up or golf-style shirts, blazers or sweaters and comfortable shoes. Remember that the hotel auditorium and conference rooms can become cool and personal comfort zones vary. To ensure your comfort, it is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to conference sessions.

The Annual Banquet (held Thursday evening at 7pm) is a formal business dress event.

President's Reception

Again this year at the President's Reception on Wednesday night, we will have a Map Gallery along with good music and lots of fun. The poster session will give conference attendees an opportunity to display their maps and to view what others around the state are creating. Bring a sample of your work and show it off! If you are interested in participating, contact Christine Wallace (see Poster Session Coordinator above). Two awards will be given: one for "best analytical map" and one for "best cartographic design", and one for "best digital presentation".

Any types of maps are fine, the only restriction is that they be no larger than 36"x45". (If you have a special product that is larger than this, talk to Julie and something may be able to be worked out for you.)

If you're working toward your GISP Designation, remember that participating in a poster session is worth 1 point and an additional point if you win an award!

We will have a costume contest again this year during the President's Reception. The theme is “House of Hair”. Each participant can wear his/her favorite concert t-shirt, and we will have all kinds of wigs to wear to have your picture taken as part of the contest. Prizes are generally given for best male and best female costume, as voted on by the participants in the reception.

Fall Conference Presentations

While talking about participation, we would love to see more presentations from our members at Fall Conference. What's going on where you are? Have you undergone a conversion, switched from hand to automated mapping, implemented a public access or internet site, or used GPS for mapping purposes? Any of these and many other topics would make a presentation that would be interesting, and who knows, maybe helpful to our members. If you are interested in doing a presentation, contact the conference chair as listed above. The sooner you do so the better so that our committee members can work to provide you an informative, interesting conference.
