Hotel Accomodations

Due to a lack of availability of 2-double bed rooms in the host hotel, the NCPMA has reserved blocks of guest rooms at the Embassy Suites (where the meeting is being held) and at the Homewood Suites (next door to the Embassy Suites) in Greensboro, NC near the airport. Suites with a King-Size bed are available at the Embassy Suites and suites with 2 Doubles are at the Homewood Suites.

(We also anticipate holding Fall Conference here again in 2014, but will not need to use both properties. All rooms will be blocked at the Embassy Suites and the Homewood Suites would only be used if the entire room block is exhausted.)

Guest room reservations are the individual responsibility of conference attendees. To make your reservations:

Room Type Hotel Reservations Phone Room Rate* Online Reservations
King Bed Suite Embassy Suites 1-800-EMBASSY $124* Reserve Rooms
2 Double Beds Suite Homewood Suites 1-800-CALL-HOME $114* Reserve Rooms

You can make your reservations online at our group rate by using the "Reserve Rooms" link for the appropriate hotel above.

*Room Rates per night, sales or occupancy taxes additional

Both properties are All-Suites Hotels, but rates are slightly lower than regular rooms at other hotels that have hosted the conference recently. Cooked-to-order breakfast, an evening reception, and wireless Internet access are all included with your room. (Homewood Suites guests will receive coupons for Breakfast and evening reception at the Embassy, so we can all be together.)

The group rate will be offered until Monday, September 3rd. After that date, accomodations will be subject to room and rate availability. (Group rate may not be available.) It is strongly suggested that you make your room reservations early.

The Embassy Suites and Homewood Suites are located at Exit 210 off of I-40 near the Greensboro Airport. (google maps link)

What should I wear?!?!

Appropriate dress for the NCPMA Conference Meetings is business casual. Suggestions include: khaki slacks, button-up or golf-style shirts, blazers or sweaters and comfortable shoes. Remember that the hotel auditorium and conference rooms can become cool and personal comfort zones vary. To ensure your comfort, it is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to conference sessions.

The Annual Banquet (held Thursday evening at 7pm) is a formal business dress event.

President's Social

Again this year at the President's Social on Wednesday night, we will have a Map Gallery along with good music and lots of fun. The poster session will give conference attendees an opportunity to display their maps and to view what others around the state are creating. Bring a sample of your work and show it off! If you are interested in participating, contact Una Freeman freemanu@co.surry.nc.us. Two awards will be given: one for "best analytical map", and one for "best cartographic design".

Any types of maps are fine, the only restriction is that they be no larger than 36"x36". (If you have a special product that is larger than this, talk to Lucy and something may be able to be worked out for you.)

If you're working toward your GISP Designation, remember that participating in a poster session is worth 1 point and an additional point if you win an award!

There will also be a costume contest again this year. Come to the social dressed up in your best Western attire or costume.

Fall Conference Presentations

While talking about participation, we would love to see more presentations from our members at Fall Conference. What's going on where you are? Have you undergone a conversion, switched from hand to automated mapping, implemented a public access or internet site, or used GPS for mapping purposes? Any of these and many other topics would make a presentation that would be interesting, and who knows, maybe helpful to our members. If you are interested in doing a presentation, contact the conference chair as listed above. The sooner you do so the better so that our committee members can work to provide you an informative, interesting conference.
